A few hours ago, Formula 1 announced the return of the Portuguese circuit to the 2021 calendar.
Portimao was the twelfth stage of last season hosting a Grand Prix in Portugal for the first time. This year, following the spectacular 2020 GP, the circuit is reconfirmed to host the third stage of the season on May 2nd.
17,000 lucky spectators will be able to attend the GP, obviously appropriately spaced to comply with all anti-Covid rules.
Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, commented:
We are really happy to be able to confirm that Formula 1 will race in Portimao on May 2nd, following the great success of last year. We want to thank the promoter and the Portuguese government for working hard with us to get to this point. We are confident and excited thinking about the 2021 season and we hope that Portimao can host the fans again safely, on this point we are working hard together with the organizers.
